Privacy Policy
Last updated: 27 February 2026
At Generalist World, we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, who we share it with, and what rights you have over it.
We’ve written this to be as clear and readable as possible. If anything is unclear, please don’t hesitate to get in touch at hello@generalist.world.
By using our Services, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please stop using our Services.

What Personal Data We Collect
We only collect what we actually need. Depending on how you use our Services, this may include:
Information you give us directly
- Your name and email address when you register for a free or Premium account
- Payment information when you purchase Premium membership (processed securely via Stripe — we do not store your card details)
- Any information you choose to share in community spaces, such as posts, comments, or your member profile
- Information you voluntarily enter into Curated Connections if you choose to opt in
- Messages you send us when contacting us for support
Information we collect automatically
- Technical data such as your IP address, browser type, device type, and operating system
- Pages you visit and how you interact with our website
- Access logs, stored for up to 7 days for security purposes
Information from third-party platforms
When you use our Services across platforms like Slack, Luma, Beehiiv, and Notion, those platforms may share relevant data with us in order to provide you with access and communications. Each platform has its own privacy policy (linked in the Third-Party Platforms section below).
Why We Collect Your Data and Our Legal Basis
We process your data under GDPR and only where we have a lawful basis to do so. Here’s how that breaks down:
To provide our Services — We need certain data to run your account, give you access to community spaces, process your membership purchase, and send you communications you’ve signed up for. The legal basis is contract fulfilment.
To communicate with you — We send transactional emails (account confirmations, membership updates, support responses) and, where you’ve opted in, member-only newsletters and updates via beehiiv. The legal basis is contract fulfilment for transactional emails, and consent for marketing communications.
To keep our Services secure — We process access logs and monitor for fraudulent or abusive activity. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in protecting the community and our Services.
To improve our Services — We use anonymised and aggregated data to understand how members use our Services and to make them better. The legal basis is our legitimate interest.
To comply with legal obligations — In some circumstances we are required to process and retain data to comply with the law.
Sensitive and Special Category Data
Because Generalist World is a community where members may choose to share personal experiences, some of the information you voluntarily share — such as details relating to your health, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religious beliefs — may be considered sensitive or special category data under GDPR.
We will never ask you to share this kind of information. If you choose to share it, you are consenting to us processing it as part of operating our community Services. You can request deletion of this data at any time by contacting hello@generalist.world.
Marketing Communications
We do not send marketing emails without your consent. When you sign up for our newsletter or member-only communications via beehiiv, you are giving us permission to send you updates, resources, and community news.
You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email, or by contacting us at hello@generalist.world. Unsubscribing from marketing emails will not affect transactional communications related to your account.
We have never sold member data to advertisers or third parties, and we never will.
Curated Connections
If you choose to opt in to Curated Connections, our member matching service, you will enter your own information directly into the Curated Connections platform. This data is shared with other participating members for the purpose of introductions and networking.
Participation is entirely voluntary. You will not be added without actively opting in yourself. You can withdraw from Curated Connections at any time by contacting us.
AI Career Coach
Our AI Career Coach tool (generalist.lovable.app) is available to all users. At present, this tool does not collect or store your personal data. We will update this Privacy Policy if that changes in the future.
Output from the AI Career Coach is generated automatically and is provided for informational purposes only. It does not constitute professional career, legal, or financial advice.
Who We Share Your Data With
We do not sell your data. We only share it in the following circumstances:

Business transitions — In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of Generalist World, your data may be transferred to the new owner, who would be bound by this Privacy Policy.
International Data Transfers
Some of our third-party providers are based outside the UK and EEA, including in the United States. Where we transfer your data internationally, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place — such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the relevant data protection authorities — to keep your data protected.
How Long We Keep Your Data

However, no system is completely secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately at hello@generalist.world.
In the event of a data breach that is likely to affect your rights or freedoms, we will notify the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) within 72 hours and inform affected members as required by law.
