Let us guess. If you’re here…

You don’t have a clear answer to “What do you do?” and it haunts you.

None of the usual labels capture what you’re great at. You’re tired of rehearsing watered-down intros that still feel off.

You wonder if anyone actually understands what you’re capable of.

You solve problems in your sleep, you adapt, you’re impressive. But people rarely know what to do with you. You feel like you’re always in the wrong rooms, or in ones that stall you.

You’re ambitious but the paths ahead don’t feel built for you.

You’re not confused about what you’re capable of. You’re confused about where to take it.

Concrete solutions, for concrete problems

Finally, a language for who you are

You no longer have to oversimplify or ‘chop off’ parts of how you define yourself.

We’ve carefully crafted resources so you gain clarity and confidence on what makes you distinct, how to express it, and where it fits into the (outside) world.

Direction that doesn’t dilute you

Workshops, intros, and weekly curated roles that help you make a damn giant dent in the world.

You’ll be surrounded by opportunities that don’t ask you to niche down, but instead let you lean all the way in.

You’re just one piece of the generalist puzzle

… (we’ve got 500+ more)

We have one rule: No generalist walks alone. We’re (proudly) the last community you’ll ever need.

Taking the squiggly-road-less-travelled isn’t for the faint of heart. You’ve come so far all by yourself. We’ve been there, and the silence gets heavy. So let us extend a hand, one that won’t falter, ever.

I just signed the contract for a new job!! 🎉 Massive heck yeah for a two reasons: 1. It’s the first time I’ve been reached out to for a role rather than me applying, and 2. I’m going to be working with and for women at a super early stage start up, building something game changing in women’s health 🫶 I am SO EXCITED!!

Anyone built a music business from scratch (ie making/selling music)? I’m in the learning stages and resources seem very sparse or prohibitively expensive. Would love some pointers on where to look to learn more as I live in a city without much of a music scene.

Dephi – allows you to create a digital representation of your mind so you can scale 1-1 interactions. I use this product via a coaching program all the time and love it. It enables you to access the coach’s brain 24/7.

I’ve traded emails with the CEO for support purposes so may be able to make an intro.

“The people here, have a true appreciation of each other”

Generalist World is, by far, the most engaged, helpful and valuable community I’ve been a part of (online or in-person).

The people here, have a true appreciation of each other because of our shared experience: we’ve felt lost in the professional world because our diverse set of skills and experiences don’t fit the traditional model of a specialist employee.

If you’re in search of a place to learn, grow and navigate how to embrace the value unlocked because you are a generalist, just sign up. Full stop.

“There are few places in the world where you immediately feel at home”

There are few places in the world where you immediately feel at home and amongst kin; that share the same mindset, willing to help and be honest enough to not sugar coat the hard truth.

I found this in Generalist world.

Milly has created a community from all walks of life and all stages of life. It’s like having a hive mind of super intelligence at your fingertips.

Jiten

“I have met brilliant people and embraced my own generalist tendencies”

Generalist World is home to some of the best people on Earth. And it all starts with Milly. Her positive flame ignites a friendly and inclusive community.

Through Generalist World I have met brilliant people and embraced my own generalist tendencies.

“I’ve got 400 other people like me across the globe”

I used to feel completely isolated and a little bit insane when I would talk about work. But now that I’ve got 400 other people like me across the globe, it’s starting to feel more like a feature and way less of a bug 🤗

Lindsey Lerner

“I have already found greater career clarity”

Generalist World is a network of systems thinkers whose career paths have defied linear norms.

This welcoming, international community has a wealth of wisdom, optimism, advice, and curiosity.

In the few days that I’ve been a part of the group, I have already found greater career clarity and confidence than I have had in years.

“Generalist World has helped me reshape how I see myself, and how I see my place in the world of the future”

I have written multiple novel length reviews trying to explain the impact GW has had on me in a relatively short amount of time. As someone who has joined multiple clubs and cohorts and bootcamps and associations, Generalist World is the first one I’m legitimately excited to renew.

Generalist World has helped me reshape how I see myself, and how I see my place in the world of the future

“I landed my now current role as Chief of Staff”

My goal was to just meet others who considered themselves generalists and learn from them.

A few hours after joining, I got a welcome video on Slack from Milly that made me smile.

It was only about a month after joining that I landed my now current role as Chief of Staff to the CMO at a growing FinTech company called Addepar. Generalist World was literally the validation and catalyst that I needed to be able to find the right role for me.

“I learnt that perhaps I’ve been thinking a little too narrowly”

Meeting others in the community willing to help, also sometime sharing something out loud to a group can give you a different prespective about how you’ve been approaching something.

I learnt that perhaps I’ve been thinking a little too narrowly on the ‘One-Liner”

Angela Macdonald

“I had fascinating conversations, met inspiring people”

A big thank you to Milly Tamati and to Generalist World for a “good for the soul” meet up. I had fascinating conversations, met inspiring people, and got a little wet in the process – the sign of a great time.

Built by generalists, for generalists

Hi. I’m Milly, founder of Generalist World, and I am a generalist.

But if you had asked me this three and a half years ago, I would have, like, slunk under the table because it wasn’t something that I could say hand on heart with pride.

You see, I never really fit in to communities, to spaces, even to jobs. Everything was so specialized and I felt like I had to squeeze myself into a box. And one day I asked the question, I wonder if there’s anyone else like me?

And I found someone. And when I saw their eyes light up, when we realized we both had this nonlinear squiggly career path, it felt like magic.

And for the last three and a half years, I have been flying this flag, bringing together the people who are like us, the people who don’t fit into a box, the people who are natural dot connectors. We come from all walks of life. We come from all over the globe. Our backgrounds are all different.

But what unites us is that we are generalists and that we believe in generalism. We believe in the collective. If this is giving you little spidey tingles, maybe this is exactly the place for you as well. Hope to see you soon.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have a trial period?

We don’t, by design. The culture of the community is everything to us, and having people come and go would have a negative impact. However, we do offer a 30-day money back guarantee if you find its not the space for you. Though, our May cohort welcomed 81 new members, and not a single person requested a refund 😎

I’m early in my career, is this the space for me?

You’ll find most value here if you’re 5+ years into your career. Most GW members are mid-senior generalists, and our conversations and education tend to sway this way. In the meantime, we hope you can enjoy the many free resources we put out weekly!

I don’t know if I’m a generalist

Guess what? We have MANY specialists inside GW. I know, it melts your brain for a sec. But we believe that being a generalist can be something that you are, and it can be something you can learn. We have hardcore generalist-for-life types but we also have people who are curious about generalism. Who see this is a valuable, future-proof skillset. If you want to approach your career more like a generalist, and you’re a kind, smart, generous human – you’re welcome here!

Play your melody, make your career dance
